초전도체는 두 가지 성질을 갖는다.

Superconductors have two properties.

우선 물질의 전기 저항이 0이 되는 ‘완전 도체’의 특성이다.

First of all, it is a characteristic of a “complete conductor” in which the 

electrical resistance of a material becomes zero.

그리고 주변 자기장을 밀쳐내 완전히 상쇄하는 ‘완전 반자성’의 특성이다.

And it is a characteristic of 'complete diamagnetic' that completely 

cancels out the surrounding magnetic field.

이 두 가지의 성질을 동시에 지니는 꿈의 물질이 바로 ‘초전도체’다.

A dream material that has both of these properties at the same time

 is a 'superconductor'.

이를 이용하면 전기 저항을 줄여 전력 송신의 효율을 높일 수 있다.

이에 물리학자들은 초전도체를 일상에서 널리 응용하기 위해 골몰했다.

구현 온도가 영하 약 20도까지 올라오면서 돌파구가 열렸다.

The breakthrough was opened as the implementation temperature rose to 

about 20 degrees below zero.

이번 연구는 상온에서 초전도체를 만들 수 있음을 보인 첫 연구다.

This is the first study to show that superconductors can be made at normal temperature.
