'Single parent marriage immigrants', granted residence status

‘한 부모 결혼이민자’는 우리나라 국민인 배우자와 이혼한 후에도 자녀를 성년이 될 때까지

국내에서 직접 양육한 외국인 부모이다.

“Single-parent marriage immigrants” are foreign parents who directly raise their children

in Korea until they reach adulthood even after divorcing their spouse, a Korean national.

법무부는 이들의 체류 불안을 없애기 위해 내년부터 거주 F-2 자격을 부여한다고 21일

밝혔다.

The Ministry of Justice announced on the 21st that it will grant resident F-2 status

from next year to alleviate their anxiety over their stay.

이에 따라, 자녀가 성년이 될 때까지 직접 양육을 하고, 정부 지원을 받지 않을 정도의

소득수준과 일정 이상의 한국어 구사 능력을 갖춘 한 부모 결혼이민자에게는 1회 최장

3년의 체류기간이 부여된다.

Accordingly, single-parent marriage immigrants who directly raise their children until

they reach adulthood, and who have an income level that do not receive

government support and have a certain level of proficiency in Korean, are given a

period of stay of up to three years at a time.

해당 자격이 있으면 취업이나 직업 이전, 거주 활동 등에 사실상 제한이 없다.

If they have the appropriate qualifications, there are virtually no restrictions

on employment, job transfer, or living activities.

한 부모 결혼이민자는 그간 미성년자 양육 시 받는 결혼이민자 F-6-2 체류자격 대신

방문동거 F-1 체류자격 등으로 국내에 머물렀다.

Single-parent marriage immigrants have so far stayed in Korea with the F-1 status

of visitation and cohabitation instead of the status of F-6-2 status of marriage

immigrants, which are received when raising minors.

F-1 체류자격으로는 국내 취업에 제약이 있다.

F-1 status of residence has restrictions on domestic employment.

한편 2000년 5월 25일 오후 11시에 출생한 자가 성년이 되는 때는 2019년 5월 25일 오전

0시가 된다.

On the other hand, when a person born on May 25, 2000 at 11 p.m. turns into

adulthood, it is at 0 a.m. on May 25, 2019.

민법상 성년 연령은 이전의 만 20세에서 19세로 낮췄다.

Under civil law, the age of adulthood has been lowered from the previous 20 to 19.
