2nd Infantry Division Soldiers provide support to fight fire

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Division provided emergency firefighting support to a housing area near Seoul Air Base today.
캠프 험프리스, 대한민국 – 미 제2보병사단 장병들이 오늘 서울공항주변에 위치한 주거지역에 발생한 긴급 소방 작업에 지원을 마련하였다.

Pilots from the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Inf. Div. flying a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter assisted Repulic of Korea aircraft extinguish a fire near a local housing area one kilometer west of Seoul Air Base.
미2사단 제2항공여단 조종사들은 UH-60 블랙호크 헬기를 출동시켜 서울공항 서쪽 약 1킬로미터 떨어진 주거지역 근처 화재를 진압하는데 한국 정부 항공기를 지원하였다.
Capt. Jesus E. Maldonado, a Black Hawk pilot, noticed the fire just prior to landing after a training mission and called the operations tower at Seoul Air Base to offer assistance when he noticed only one ROK aircraft attempting to extinguish the fire.
블랙호크 조종사인 지져스 말도나도 대위는 훈련후 착륙전에 화재를 발견하였고 한국 항공기 한 대 만 화재 진압을 시도하는 것을 발견했을 때 그는 서울공항 관재소 작전과에 전화하여 지원을 제안했다.
The aircraft crew used a “BAMBI Bucket” to drop water on the fire from the air until the fire was exteringuished.
항공기 승무원들은 “밤비 버컷”을 사용하여 화재가 진압될 때까지 공중에서 화재지역을 향해 물을 살포했다.
“I was worried and I didn’t want the fire to spread to the housing area because both local Koreans and U.S. servicemembers and their families live there,” saidMaldonado.
말도나도는 “저는 걱정이 되었고 화재가 거주지역으로 번지는 것을 원치 않았습니다. 왜냐하면 그곳 거주지역엔 지역 한국인과 미군 장병들과 가족들이 살고 있는 곳이었기 때문입니다.”
